Like so many towns in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, Vredenburg’s distance from the other city, Cape Town, is of importance as many visitor use Cape Town as there base for exploring the wondrous country side of South Africa. It lies about 130 kilometers north of Cape Town, and itself is used as a springboard for visits to places like St Helena Bay, Langebaan, Paternoster and Saldanha Bay.

One of the most important attractions in the area is Fossil Park, which bares witness to such intrigues as the giant pig and short neck giraffe. Close by is the Langebaanweg Air-force base. As with many of the two along this stretch of coast, the months of May and June are exceptionally beautiful as the daises and other wild flowers are in bloom, transforming the hills and fields into a landscape of impeccable beauty.
