160 kilometers from Cape Town, along the West Coast Region of South Africa’s Western Cape Province, lies the Village of Britannia Bay. This little village is probably one of the best kept secrets of the coast. The waters are warmer here, than anywhere else along the West Coast because the cold Benguela Current does not enter the bay. For about 10 months out of the year, Britannia Bay is the ideal location from which to spot Southern Wright and Humpback Whales.
Holidaymakers with small boats will find the easy slipway at Britannia Bay and excellent launching pad for many forms of water sports activities. Visits to Seal Island offer excellent fishing, diving and crayfish catching opportunities. For bird lovers, Britannia Bay offer well over 200 species of birds. Nearby, one can visit the West Coast National Park, which is one of the World’s most important bird sanctuaries, providing for more than 256 bird species.
